The Group

The entire structure of A.A. depends upon the participation and conscience of the individual groups, and how each of these groups conducts its affairs.

The A.A. Group — the Final Voice of the Fellowship

“Alcoholics Anonymous has been called an upside down organization because “the ultimate responsibility and final authority for world services resides with the groups — rather than with the trustees, the General Service Board or the General Service Office in New York.”

The General Service Representative - GSR

The GSR is an elected member of your home group. It is a two-year service commitment. The GSR is your home group’s link to A.A. as a whole. GSRs attend district meetings and area assemblies, relaying information between group members and the general service structure of A.A.

A.A. members start out providing service in their group.

The A.A. Group Handbook is for the Group to use in support of our primary purpose. New groups receive a physical copy of the  handbook when they list themselves with the General Service Office.
