Communications & Information Technology Committee Chair

Purpose:

To serve as a trusted servant of the District 23 committee, responsible for coordinating and maintaining the communications tools used by the District 23. To keep the groups and individuals informed of District 23 activities.

Qualifications:

A minimum of 3 years of continuous sobriety. A minimum of 1 year service experience as a Group Service Representative (GSR) or a District Committee officer or service committee chair. Knowledge of the Alcoholic Anonymous service structure.  Understanding and experience with information systems, website operation and print production. Experience with effective communication, utilizing electronic systems and printed materials. Experience with Squarespace, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 preferred.

Duties:

  1. Maintain and develop the communications and technology utilized by the District 23 committee including, hardware, software, print materials and digital assets.

  2. Maintain and develop the District 23 website (d23ne.org). Primary information should include announcements of fellowship events, committee meetings, newsletters and service information provided by Area 41 Nebraska, the General Service Office of Alcoholics Anonymous, the West Central region and Omaha Metro Intergroup.

  3. Work with the other committee chairs to develop and integrate their information across the District 23 communication platforms.

  4. Create and deliver monthly email updates of D23 activities and service information, via the Squarespace email campaigns system. Actively grow and maintain the public email contacts list.

  5. Create or assist in the creation of printed materials used by District 23 and coordinate distribution.

  6. Maintain the District 23 electronic archives and assist all District committee chairs in formatting and submitting their materials for archiving. Communications and Technology information for archiving should include monthly reports, budgets, receipts for purchases and printed materials used for communication.

  7. Monitor and update District 23 group meeting information on the Metro Omaha Intergroup and Area 41 meeting finders. Submit D23 event flyers and notifications to the Intergroup and Area 41 websites for addition to their event calendars.

  8. Attend the District 23 monthly business meeting (or send an alternate) and provide a monthly report to include: website activity, email campaign activity, website analytics, and current progress of ongoing projects. Report updates of activity with the Omaha Metro Intergroup technology committee and the Area 41 communications and technology committee. Conduct a monthly (or as needed) Communications & Technology committee meeting and submit agenda items to the D23 secretary for discussion and voting.

  9. Provide a yearly estimated budget for the Communications and Technology needs of District 23.

  10. Involve and encourage Group Service Representatives (GSRs) and other District 23 committee chairs who are interested in participating with the Communication and Technology Committee.

  11. Attend yearly; one Area 41 assembly in person and one Area 41 assembly virtually.  Suggested: participate, in person or virtually, with the Omaha Metro Intergroup technology committee, the Area 41 Communications & Technology committee, National and International AA forums on communications and technology.
